Frequently Asked Questions

We look for educators with a strong background in Jewish learning, teaching experience (formal or informal), excellent communication skills, and a passion for sharing Torah knowledge. Semicha is valued but not required for all teaching tracks. Each applicant goes through an interview and background check process.
Teaching stipends vary based on your experience, specialization, and hours. Our educators typically receive competitive stipend rates, with opportunities to increase your stipend as you build your student base and receive positive reviews.
There's no minimum hour requirement. You set your own availability. Some educators teach just a few hours per week while others make it their primary occupation. We recommend starting with at least 5-10 hours of availability to build momentum.
Students complete a detailed questionnaire about their learning goals, background, and preferences. Our matching system pairs them with educators whose expertise and teaching style align with their needs. You'll receive match requests that you can accept or decline.
Ideally, a computer or tablet with a camera, microphone, and a stable internet connection. That said — if you don't have the right device, we have a lending program. Tell us during your application and we'll get you set up at no cost.
Absolutely! Many of our educators teach students from around the world. Our platform makes it easy to schedule across time zones, and some educators specifically set availability for international students.

Requirements

  • Background in Jewish education or Torah study (yeshiva, seminary, Jewish day school, or equivalent)
  • A rabbi, teacher, or Jewish institution that can vouch for your knowledge and character
  • Some teaching or tutoring experience (formal or informal)
  • Access to a device with a camera and stable internet (don't have one? See our device lending program below)
  • Fluent in English (additional languages are a plus)

Note: We welcome educators from all backgrounds and denominations. Semicha is valued but not required for most teaching areas. All educators go through our verification process to ensure quality and safety for our students.

Trust and privacy notice

Shteig.org does not require you to pay any fees to join as an educator. We will never ask for sensitive financial information during the application process. Educators are independent contractors, not employees of shteig.org.

“An educator in Bnei Brak with a loaner Chromebook and one bar of WiFi can complete a session and get paid — because this platform was built around his constraints, not despite them.”

No device? No problem.

We never want technology to be the reason a great teacher can't share Torah. If you need help getting set up, we've got you.

Device lending program

Need a device? We lend laptops and tablets to educators at no cost. Complete 10 sessions and it's yours to keep.

Personal setup call

Every new educator gets a free 15-minute onboarding call with a Shteig team member. We'll walk you through the platform, test your camera and microphone, and do a trial session join — so your first real session is smooth and confident.

One-tap session access

15 minutes before every session, you'll receive a text message with a single link that drops you directly into the meeting room — no login, no dashboard, no searching. Just tap and you're in.

Educator support line

Something not working? Text our dedicated educator WhatsApp line and a real person will respond — not a chatbot. We're here before, during, and after your sessions.
